Presentation for pediatric therapists and the community:
Cortical visual impairment (CVI) is a common diagnosis in children with multiple disabilities receiving services in pediatric settings and has important implications for a child’s engagement in service provision. Dr. Lowery will present a 45-minute overview on information related to the visual system and diagnostic features of CVI. Saaron Putnam-Almaguer will then present information related to the 10 unique characteristics of CVI, how those characteristics present themselves in each of the 3 phases of CVI, the importance of determining the CVI score/phase the child is in, and intervention strategies to best promote the functional use of vision for each of the 3 phases. Kayley McDonald will then present some of the outcomes from her capstone project working on program development for CVI.
NOTE: Please take public transportation if able, though free parking is available in patient parking at Shriners.
We are currently working on trying to do a live web stream as well, but are still working out the details. More information regarding possible web streaming to come with the RSVP.
